French physicist and 2022 Nobel Laureate in Physics, awarded jointly with John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger for experiments with entangled photons establishing the violation of Bell inequalities. Born 15 June 1947 in Agen, France, Aspect performed the landmark Bell test experiments (1980-1982) at Universite Paris-Sud that demonstrated quantum entanglement. He is a graduate of Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan and Institut d'Optique Graduate School. In 2025 he was elected to the Academie Francaise. Aspect co-founded Pasqal in 2019 to commercialize neutral-atom quantum computing technology developed at Institut d'Optique, serving as Scientific Advisor. His awards include the Wolf Prize in Physics (2010), Albert Einstein Medal (2012), and Holweck Medal (1991).
