William G. Dow Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan. Co-founder of Intelligent Sensor Systems (ISS). Widely recognized as one of the world's foremost MEMS experts, he built a world-class MEMS and microsystems program at Michigan after joining from Bell Labs in 1974. His doctoral research pioneered the use of silicon micromachining for neural probes, leading to the 'Michigan Probe' that changed the course of brain research. Elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1998 for contributions to sensors and MEMS. Director of the Center for Integrated Microsystems and the NSF Wireless MEMS Engineering Research Center. Holds Ph.D. and M.S. from Stanford University and B.S. from Purdue University, all in Electrical Engineering.
