American computer scientist and entrepreneur who co-founded Cisco Systems in December 1984 with Sandra Lerner while both worked at Stanford University. Born in Pennsylvania in 1952, he earned degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford. Bosack and Lerner pioneered the commercialization of local area network (LAN) routing technology. He left Cisco in 1990 and later received the IEEE Computer Society Computer Entrepreneur Award in 2009.
