Google announced the roughly $600 million investment in June 2015, with the site chosen in part because the existing TVA transmission infrastructure could be reused and matched with new renewable generation. TVA remains the serving utility, and Google contracted with TVA to purchase output from new solar farms added to the grid on the facility's behalf. Construction on the campus began in April 2018, and the site is listed as operational on Google's public data center locations page.
