Two Figure 02 robots worked in the body shop at BMW Manufacturing's Plant Spartanburg (South Carolina), running 10-hour shifts Monday through Friday.\n\nThe task: sheet-metal pick-and-place. The robots lifted sheet-metal parts from bins and racks and placed them onto welding fixtures to a 5-millimeter tolerance, after which traditional six-axis robotic arms performed the welding. The work is repetitive, physically demanding, and exacting in both speed and precision.\n\nKey results (reported by Figure AI and BMW): an 11-month deployment totaling roughly 1,250 operating hours; more than 90,000 parts loaded; contribution to the production of over 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles; approximately 1.2 million steps taken (around 200 miles walked inside the facility); placement accuracy above 99%; and an 84-second cycle time (37 seconds for the load).\n\nTimeline: announced January 2024; a weeks-long trial ran in August 2024; robots were on-site within about six months; full active-line deployment was reached by month 10. The pilot was completed and Figure 02 was retired in November 2025, with the units returning to Figure HQ as part of a fleet-wide F.02 retirement. Reliability learnings — especially in the forearm and wrist electronics and thermal management — were carried into the Figure 03 redesign. Figure operates on a Robots-as-a-Service model (approximately $1,000 per robot per month). Status: ended (successful pilot completion, not a failure).","keyFacts":[{"label":"Deployment period","value":"11 months (2025, ended Nov 2025)"},{"label":"Parts handled","value":"90,000+ sheet-metal parts"},{"label":"Vehicles produced","value":"30,000+ BMW X3"},{"label":"Operating hours","value":"~1,250"},{"label":"Distance walked","value":"~1.2M steps (~200 miles)"},{"label":"Placement accuracy","value":">99%"},{"label":"Cycle time","value":"84 seconds (37s load)"},{"label":"Tolerance","value":"5 mm"},{"label":"Task","value":"Sheet-metal pick-and-place to welding fixtures"},{"label":"Shift pattern","value":"10-hour shifts, Mon-Fri"},{"label":"Commercial model","value":"Robots-as-a-Service (~$1,000/robot/mo)"}],"reviewNote":null,"createdAt":"2026-05-26T02:16:30.676Z","updatedAt":"2026-05-26T03:26:19.984Z","model":{"id":"f5599108-6c06-4af4-a669-378b87860daf","companyId":"7107d624-dbc3-4d73-9103-1138ebf6f754","modelName":"Figure 02","slug":"figure-02","description":null,"formFactor":null,"maturityStage":"pilot","specs":{},"manufacturerSerial":null,"reviewStatus":"reviewed","sources":[{"url":"https://www.figure.ai/news/production-at-bmw","label":"Figure AI — F.02 contributed to production of 30,000 cars at BMW; F.02 retirement begins","title":"Figure AI — F.02 contributed to production of 30,000 cars at BMW; F.02 retirement begins","mediaType":"article","sourceName":"Figure AI","publishedAt":"2025-11-19"},{"url":"https://www.repairerdrivennews.com/2025/11/25/humanoid-robots-complete-11-month-project-at-bmw-plant/","label":"Repairer Driven News — Figure 02 completes 11-month BMW project, retirement begins","title":"Repairer Driven News — Figure 02 completes 11-month BMW project, retirement begins","mediaType":"article","sourceName":"Repairer Driven News","publishedAt":"2025-11-25"}],"aliases":[],"collisionRisk":"low","reviewNote":null,"createdAt":"2026-05-26T02:16:30.202Z","updatedAt":"2026-05-26T02:16:40.393Z","company":{"id":"7107d624-dbc3-4d73-9103-1138ebf6f754","name":"Figure AI","slug":"figure-ai","description":"American humanoid robotics company developing general-purpose bipedal humanoids for commercial and (prospective) home use, powered by its in-house Helix vision-language-action model.
