AI Pin at US Healthcare
The Humane AI Pin was a screenless, voice-first wearable AI device (a magnetic clip with a laser ink projector instead of a display), launched in April 2024 at $499 plus a $24/month subscription. It became the canonical cautionary case for AI-native hardware: launch reviews were severe, a CPSC recall covered roughly 10,500 charge cases for a fire hazard, and Humane began seeking a buyer within weeks. HP acquired Humane's assets (the CosmOS software, patents, and team) for about $116 million in February 2025, and the AI Pin's servers were shut down on February 28 2025, bricking the devices' cloud and cellular features.
