Peter van der Made
Founder of BrainChip (ASX: BRN), the world's first company to commercialize a neuromorphic AI processor. A pioneer with 45+ years in computer innovation, van der Made designed the first digital neuromorphic devices between 2004–2007, leading to the Akida spiking neural network processor — a chip that processes sensory data at orders-of-magnitude lower power than conventional CPUs/GPUs, enabling Edge AI without cloud connectivity.
Previously founded vCIS Technology (a computer immune system company acquired by Internet Security Systems and then IBM) and PolyGraphic Systems (high-resolution graphics accelerator for IBM PCs). He authored 'Higher Intelligence' (2013), describing brain architecture from a computer science perspective. Retired from day-to-day operations in early 2024 but remains a non-executive director, Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board, and the largest shareholder.
Recipient of the 2024 WA Pearcey Entrepreneur Award and the AI Hardware 2021 Innovator Award. Over 18 patents granted for his inventions.
