How many AI data centers are actually running?

Across the 78 largest AI-scale campuses DEPLOY tracks, roughly 4.89 GW of capacity is energized and operating today, against about 103.29 GW that has been announced. Most announced capacity is still years from operation, so the two figures are not the same fact.

Announced capacity is the planned figure a company or project states publicly. Energized capacity is the electrical load actually powered and running today. DEPLOY records both separately, each dated and tied to a primary source, so the gap between a plan and an operating facility is visible rather than hidden.

Campuses with a verified or reported energized figure above zero include xAI Colossus (Memphis) (1 GW), Amazon Project Rainier Data Center (New Carlisle) (0.91 GW), Meta Prometheus Data Center (New Albany) (0.50 GW), Microsoft Fairwater Data Center (Mount Pleasant) (0.37 GW), Compass Datacenters Red Oak Campus (DFW III) (0.36 GW), Microsoft Fairwater Atlanta / QTS Fayetteville Campus (0.34 GW). Each has its own dated record.

Stargate is a real, multi-site AI-infrastructure program. DEPLOY tracks several of its campuses individually. As of 2026 most are under construction with little or no energized capacity, which is why each campus is recorded with its announced figure separated from what is actually running.

Every capacity figure carries an evidence tier (verified, reported, or claimed), an as-of date, and a primary source. The current-best figure for each series resolves to the highest evidence tier, then the latest date, excluding superseded claims. The full method is on the methodology page.
