Agile Robots acquires Franka Emika

Agile Robots is a Chinese-German robotics company founded in 2018, headquartered in Munich, developing force-controlled intelligent robots including the [Diana 7](/models/agile-robots-diana-7), a 7-axis robotic arm with torque sensors in all axes. Led by CEO Zhaopeng Chen, the company has raised ~USD 1.5B from [SoftBank](https://www.softbank.group) and others. Revenue was EUR 300M in 2025, set to double in 2026. Agile has acquired 12+ companies including idealworks and thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering, and partnered with [Google DeepMind](/companies/google-deepmind) to integrate Gemini Robotics foundation models into its hardware.

German robotics company developing force-sensitive 7-DOF [Collaborative](/companies/collaborative-robotics) robot arms. Founded in 2016 by Sami and Simon Haddadin, it produces the Franka Research 3 (FR3) and Franka Production 3 cobots. Acquired by Agile Robots in November 2023 after filing for preliminary insolvency. The company's robot arms are widely used in academic research, AI/ML robotics labs, and industrial automation.
