Partnership
BYD Company Limited x Nuro
On Jan 13 2022 BYD announced a partnership with Nuro to produce Nuro's third-generation all-electric autonomous delivery vehicle. BYD said it would finish assembly of globally sourced hardware at its Lancaster, California plant and provide Blade Battery, motors, electronic controls, and HMI displays, while Nuro integrates autonomy, control modules, and sensors and completes autonomy install/test in southern Nevada.
The release says the third-generation vehicle has about twice the cargo volume of Nuro R2, modular inserts, temperature-controlled compartments, an external pedestrian airbag, and multi-modal sensing (cameras, radars, lidar, thermal). Quotes include Stella Li (BYD) and Jiajun Zhu (Nuro). This records the 2022 manufacturing partnership announcement (BYD).
