Public research university in [Chicago](/locations/united-states/illinois/chicago) and the largest university in the Chicago area, formed in 1982 by consolidating the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle and the University of Illinois at the Medical Center. UIC was the first location in Illinois to host autonomous sidewalk delivery robots: [Starship Technologies](/companies/starship) launched a fleet of 25 [Starship delivery robots](/models/starship-bot) on campus in fall 2021, growing to ~30 robots making roughly 100 deliveries per week by 2022. The campus pilot became the model for Chicago's citywide personal-delivery-device program approved by the City Council in September 2022.
