Cadwallader C. Washburn

American businessman, politician, and Civil War major general (1818-1882) who founded the Washburn B Mill in Minneapolis in 1866. The mill later became Washburn-Crosby Company, which merged into General Mills in 1928. Served as Governor of Wisconsin (1872-1874) and as a US Congressman.

His milling innovations helped establish Minneapolis as the flour-milling capital of the world. Also fought in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War, commanding Wisconsin cavalry at the Battle of Cotton Plant and the Vicksburg Campaign.
