Justin Carpentier

Robotics researcher at Inria and head of the Willow research group, a joint team of Inria, Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS), and CNRS attached to the Computer Science department at ENS in Paris. His research focuses on Perception, Learning, Optimization, and Control for Robotics. In September 2024, he was awarded an ERC Starting Grant for his project ARTIFACT (The ARTIficial Motion FACTory), which began in September 2025.

He joined the Willow group as a postdoctoral researcher in September 2018, previously working in the Gepetto research group at LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse. He completed his PhD (2014-2017) at LAAS-CNRS on computational foundations of anthropomorphic locomotion, and received his degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from Ecole Normale Superieure Paris-Saclay in 2013.
