Hitachi CM Australia worker suffered compound leg fracture during EH4000 dump truck maintenance at Tarrawonga Mine
On 13 November 2022, a Hitachi Construction Machinery (Australia) employee was performing maintenance on a Hitachi EH4000 rigid dump truck in the mechanical workshop at Tarrawonga Mine, NSW. During the lowering and lifting of the rear axle box assembly using a crane, the worker was struck on the lower left leg by a lifting plate, causing a compound fracture.
The NSW Resources Regulator alleged HCA contravened the WHS Act. In October 2025, HCA entered into a WHS undertaking with a minimum spend of A$733,160, including a $400,000 Load Cell Project for crane safety, HSR training, and community safety initiatives.
