NHTSA escalates Tesla FSD reduced-visibility investigation to Engineering Analysis covering 3.2M vehicles
NHTSA upgraded its preliminary evaluation (PE24031) into Tesla Full Self-Driving handling of reduced-visibility conditions to Engineering Analysis EA26002, covering an estimated 3,203,754 vehicles including 2016-2026 Model S, X, 3, Y and Cybertruck. The probe includes nine documented crashes in fog, sun glare, and airborne dust conditions, including one pedestrian fatality. NHTSA suspects Tesla may be under-reporting related crashes due to internal data and labeling limitations.
