A Tesla Model Y Robotaxi was stopped on a dead-end residential road in Houston when a remote assistance operator took over to recover the vehicle; the car entered a grassy slope and the remote operator drove it into a hidden tree stump at 2 mph. Property damage only, no injuries, no airbag deployment.
This is the third Tesla robotaxi crash involving a remote teleoperator and the first Tesla has formally coded as remote operation in its NHTSA filing (report 13781-15395). The incident occurred in May 2026 and was disclosed in NHTSA data released July 20, 2026.
