Hitachi Construction Machinery and Rio Tinto signed a five-year Charter agreement to develop remote operation and partial autonomy technologies for ultra-large hydraulic excavators. Hitachi CM develops the remote operation system; Rio Tinto depays excavators and provides operational data and feedback at Pilbara mine sites in Western Australia. By 2030, Hitachi CM aims to build an interoperable platform for multiple autonomous ultra-large excavators.
