Who’s involved
US multinational truck and bus manufacturer known for its International and IC Bus brands. Founded in 1986 as the successor to [International Harvester](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Harvester), Navistar produces medium- and heavy-duty commercial trucks, proprietary diesel engines, and school buses. The company partnered with [TuSimple](/companies/tusimple) on SAE Level 4 autonomous truck development before being acquired by [Traton SE](/companies/traton) (Volkswagen Group) in July 2021 for USD 3.7 billion.

Autonomous-trucking company (founded 2015, San Diego and China, by Mo Chen and Xiaodi Hou). The first AV-trucking firm to go public (April 2021 IPO, ~$1.35B). Reached freight pilots and isolated driver-out demonstration runs (e.g. Tucson-Phoenix, Dec 2021) but never sustained observer-free commercial. A governance scandal (CEO fired Oct 2022 over ties to Hydron; FBI/SEC/CFIUS probes; ~$189M securities-fraud settlement) led to a [Nasdaq](/companies/nasdaq) delisting (Feb 2024) and the wind-down of US self-driving operations. Rebranded to CreateAI (Dec 2024), pivoting to generative AI for games and animation, focused on China/Asia. A canonical claims-vs-reality case.
