Volkswagen Group x Mobileye

German automotive group (founded 1937, [Wolfsburg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfsburg)) and Europe's largest carmaker. Its [MOIA](/companies/moia) subsidiary developed the [ID. Buzz AD](/models/vw-id-buzz-ad), the first VW production vehicle fully optimized for autonomous mobility services, powered by [Mobileye](/companies/mobileye)'s self-driving system. VW's autonomous mobility subsidiary VW ADMT has tested the ID. Buzz AD in Austin, TX since 2023 and partnered with [Uber](/companies/uber) to deploy thousands of ID. Buzz AD vehicles on the Uber platform starting in Los Angeles in 2026.

Mobileye is an Israeli autonomous-driving and vision-technology company (founded 1999, Jerusalem), majority-owned by Intel and publicly traded on NASDAQ (MBLY). It is the leading supplier of camera-based ADAS through its EyeQ system-on-chip (over 200 million shipped) and builds a tiered driving-automation stack (SuperVision, Chauffeur, and the driverless Mobileye Drive) plus REM crowdsourced HD mapping; Mobileye Drive powers robotaxi and shuttle programs with partners including Volkswagen and Holon. In January 2026 Mobileye agreed to acquire the Israeli humanoid-robot startup [Mentee robotics](/companies/mentee-robotics) for about $900 million (announced at CES, expected to close in Q1 2026), its first entry into humanoid robotics. The automotive-perception-to-humanoid tech-transfer rationale and the 'physical-AI leader' positioning are the company's stated strategy rather than demonstrated outcomes.
