Clare Grey
Co-founder and Chief Scientist of Nyobolt, a Cambridge-based battery technology company spun out of the University of Cambridge in 2019. She is the Geoffrey Moorhouse Gibson Professor of Chemistry at Cambridge, a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), and was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2022 Birthday Honours for services to science.
Pioneered the application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to study and optimize batteries, particularly lithium-ion and lithium-air batteries. Co-founded Nyobolt with Dr. Sai Shivareddy to commercialise her team's breakthrough in niobium tungsten oxide anode materials for ultra-fast-charging batteries.
Previously a professor at Stony Brook University (1994–2009) and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Nijmegen and DuPont CR&D. Educated at the University of Oxford (BA 1987, DPhil 1991).
