Overview
The University of Oxford is a UK-based research university with robotics research programs including the Oxford Robotics Institute (ORI), founded by Prof. Paul Newman. ORI focuses on autonomous robotic technologies, deploying robots in extreme environments including nuclear facilities, offshore energy, and autonomous vehicles.
The institute won a Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2023 for innovation in autonomous robotic technologies and has spun out companies including Oxbotica (autonomous vehicle software, founded 2014) and Stateful Robotics (long-horizon manipulation, $4.8M pre-seed 2025).
