UK SI 2026/867: GB accepts EU Machinery Regulation compliance and Northern Ireland moves to the EU Regulation from 20 January 2027

The Supply of Machinery (Safety) (Amendment etc.) and the EU Machinery Regulation (Enforcement etc. in Northern Ireland) Regulations 2026 come into force on 20 January 2027. Part 2 (England, Wales and Scotland) restricts the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 to Great Britain and substitutes new regulations 12A and 12B so that machinery meeting the essential requirements of Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, with the conformity assessment, documentation and CE marking that Regulation requires, may be placed on the GB market; new regulation 12C covers qualifying Northern Ireland goods.

A transitional provision lets machinery placed on the market before 20 January 2027 under the earlier rules continue to be made available in GB. Part 3 implements the EU Machinery Regulation in Northern Ireland: UK conformity assessment bodies may assess products for that market (with a UK(NI) indication), enforcement sits with HSENI, district councils and the Secretary of State, and the 2008 Regulations are revoked there.

No end date for these recognition routes appears in regulations 12A or 12B. Status: made, not yet in force. Applicability: robot makers can use one EU Machinery Regulation conformity route for both the EU and GB markets from 20 January 2027. Verified on 2026-10-26.
