Two Amazon Prime Air MK30 drones collide with construction crane in Tolleson, Arizona, prompting FAA and NTSB investigation
Two Amazon Prime Air MK30 delivery drones collided with the boom of a stationary construction crane in Tolleson, Arizona, approximately 1.25 miles northeast of the departure location. The crane was erected after the morning ground surveillance scan and was not detected by Amazon's rooftop scan procedures.
Both drones sustained substantial damage; the first drone's battery ejected and caught fire on impact. One person was evaluated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation. The FAA and NTSB launched investigations, and Amazon temporarily paused drone deliveries in the area. NTSB classified the incident as a Class 3 investigation.
