Hock E. Tan
Malaysian-born American business executive, President and CEO of Broadcom Inc. since March 2006. Born Tan Hock Eng in 1951/1952 in Penang, Malaya; naturalized US citizen since 1990. Holds BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Known for building Broadcom through aggressive acquisitions including Avago-Broadcom merger (2015), CA Technologies ($18.9B, 2018), and Symantec's enterprise security business (2019). Led a blocked $117B hostile bid for Qualcomm in 2017-18. Was the third-highest-paid US CEO in 2023 ($161.8M compensation).
Joined Meta's board of directors in February 2024. Received the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award from the Global Semiconductor Alliance in 2024.
