Deployment
Otter (and Mariner X) at Norway
Maritime Robotics (founded 2005 in Trondheim, Norway by founder and chief executive Vegard Evjen Hovstein) makes the Otter, a small all-electric catamaran survey uncrewed surface vessel for sheltered and coastal waters, and the Mariner X, an offshore long-endurance USV, recorded in the maritime form factor. It raised more than 130 million Norwegian kroner in September 2024 in a round led by the Norwegian state-owned climate investor Nysno alongside Umoe, Holta Invest, and NRP Zero, has commercial customers including OceanX and DEME, and ran an autonomous-swarm demonstration for the US Navy in Trondheim Fjord in April 2026, placing it at commercial maturity as the international new-defense extension of the cohort into Norway, beyond the US Saronic and the UK and Germany Helsing. Its Ukraine deployment is handled with symmetric verification rigor across two threads: a government-confirmed, Denmark-funded transfer of Otter USVs to Ukraine, attested on the record by the head of the Ukrainian Navy's Hydrographic Service, is the stronger thread establishing that Otters are in Ukrainian Navy service, while a separate Maritime Robotics and Teledyne Marine announcement that the Otter is now in use by the Ukrainian Navy is company-reported only with its sole quote from the company's defense vice-president, so the registry records that Otters are in service as government-confirmed but notes the quantity is undisclosed by both company and government and that whether the two threads describe the same hulls is not established. The number of vessels delivered to Ukraine and the value of any transfer are undisclosed everywhere and are not asserted.

Ørsted, the world's largest offshore wind energy company, operates Maritime Robotics Otter uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) for survey, measurement, and inspection work in Norwegian offshore wind project development areas. Maritime Robotics delivered an Otter USV to Ørsted and was subsequently selected to provide their Autonomous Navigation System (ANS) as the control platform for Ørsted's serial-production fleet of custom offshore USVs. The custom fleet vessels are constructed by Tuco Marine Group in Denmark and designed for continuous operation in harsh offshore conditions for extended periods. By late June 2023 Ørsted had deployed and tested the prototype USV in Norwegian waters in the area designated for one of its first Norwegian offshore wind projects, collecting wind and seabed condition data. Ørsted announced serial production based on the successful prototype with five new custom USVs planned by end of 2023. Ørsted also filed patents covering the uncrewed surface measuring vessel design. The Otter deployment enabled the initial operational and integration testing phase before the custom fleet scale-up.
