ADS crash report in San Francisco, CA involving a JAGUAR I-PACE (NHTSA SGO 30270-11627)
On September [XXX], 2025 at 7:58 PM PT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in San Francisco, California was in a collision involving a van on [XXX] at [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling northeastbound on [XXX] when it came to a stop for a passenger drop-off near the intersection with [XXX].
While the Waymo AV was parked with its hazard lights activated, a van approached the Waymo AV from behind and entered the oncoming lane of [XXX] to maneuver around the Waymo AV. As the van passed the stationary Waymo AV on the left, a rider in the Waymo AV opened the rear left side door and the right side of the van made contact with the left rear side door.
The passenger of the Waymo AV was not belted at the time of the impact because they were preparing to exit. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. Both vehicles sustained damage.
No injuries were reported. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 1 of Standing General Order 2021-01 because a vehicle involved was towed away. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
