ADS crash report in Atlanta, GA involving a JAGUAR I-PACE (NHTSA SGO 30270-15497)
On June [XXX], 2026 at 11:31 PM ET a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in Atlanta, Georgia was in a collision involving an SUV on [XXX] at [XXX].
The Waymo AV was stopped facing west with its right turn signal activated on [XXX] for a red light at the intersection with [XXX]. While the Waymo AV was stopped, an SUV was stopped on the south side of [XXX], to the left of the Waymo AV, against the proper direction of traffic. The Waymo AV proceeded forward momentarily to initiate a right turn, then slowed to a stop to yield to northbound traffic on [XXX], and at the same time, the SUV proceeded westbound on eastbound [XXX], and entered the intersection against the red light. The SUV slowed to a stop in the intersection, and the front of a bus traveling northbound in the rightmost lane on [XXX] made contact with the front left side of the SUV. As a result of this contact, the SUV was pushed northbound and spun clockwise towards the Waymo AV, and the front right side of the SUV made contact with the front of the stationary Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. The Waymo AV and the SUV sustained damage.
Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 1 of Standing General Order 2021-01 because a vehicle involved was towed away. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
