ADS crash report in San Francisco, CA involving a JAGUAR I-PACE (NHTSA SGO 30270-16080)
On July [XXX], 2026 at 11:05 AM PDT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in San Francisco, California was in a collision involving a passenger car on [XXX] near [XXX].
The Waymo AV was parked facing south near the west curb, and partially in the rightmost lane, on [XXX] with its hazard lights activated for a passenger dropoff. While the Waymo AV was parked, a passenger car traveling southbound in the rightmost lane on [XXX] approached the Waymo AV from behind and slowed to stop. As traffic in the adjacent left lane proceeded forward, the passenger car began changing lanes to the left adjacent lane to pass the Waymo AV, and the front left side of the passenger car made contact with the right side of a heavy truck traveling southbound in the adjacent left lane. As a result of this contact, the passenger car was pushed towards the Waymo AV, and the right side of the passenger car made contact with the rear left side of the stationary Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. The Waymo AV and the passenger car sustained damage. Waymo became aware of the tow deployment on July 31st, 2026 after an additional review of available information.
Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 1 of Standing General Order 2021-01 because a vehicle involved was towed away. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
