Zoox recalls 105 robotaxis after vehicle drove into heavy smoke at active Las Vegas fire scene
Zoox voluntarily recalled 105 autonomous vehicles after an unoccupied robotaxi drove into heavy smoke obscuring an active emergency fire scene in Las Vegas on June 20, 2026. The vehicle braked hard and steered away before stopping; a teleoperator reversed it from the scene. Zoox notified NHTSA of the recall on July 8, and it was publicly reported July 17. The recall follows a NHTSA letter urging AV companies to stop interfering with first responders.
