Key facts

Clinch River Unit 1 BWRX-300 construction permit (Sep 2026)

Primary (NRC; TVA PR): on Sep 29 2026 the NRC issued a construction permit for TVA Clinch River Unit 1, a GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy BWRX-300 ~300 MW SMR near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. NRC says review completed in 14 months, ahead of schedule; TVA is first U.S. utility permitted to construct the BWRX-300; second advanced reactor construction permit in the U.S. (after TerraPower). No construction start date announced. Separate operating license still required before fuel load. Cap: construction permit only, not an operating license

Power system growth framing (company-stated)

TVA says advances in AI and technology are increasing electricity demand across its seven-state region, and that it is planning more than 6,200 MW of new generation including about 3,770 MW already under construction (TVA Our Power System).

Origis renewable supply for Google data centers (company press)

TVA announced a partnership with Origis Energy to supply Google data centers in its service territory with 100 percent renewable energy under TVA's Green Invest framework (TVA).

Large Data Service rate in effect Oct 1 2026: ~$1.5M per MW Capacity Commitment Charge on new or expanded data center load above 5 MW; 2,000 MW FY2027 cohort (reported, Oct 2026)

Company-stated by a TVA-region customer (company-stated): PowerCompute said on Oct 6 2026 that TVA adopted a Large Data Service rate in August 2026 and removed data center load (which includes Bitcoin mining) from the general industrial rate class. Beginning TVA's fiscal 2027 on Oct 1 2026, new or expanded data center load above the first 5 MW of contracted demand pays a Capacity Commitment Charge of approximately $1.5 million per MW, with a 2,000 MW cohort available first come, first served for fiscal 2027; load under contract effective before Oct 1 is not subject to the charge. PowerCompute moved its Columbus, Mississippi site to the distributor's implementing tariff (Columbus Light and Water Schedule DCB) and raised contracted demand from 8.5 MW to 11 MW without being assessed the charge. Reported (reported; also X/@ColocationScout): Colocation Scout says the TVA Board approved the rate on Aug 20 2026 and that this is the first company filing under it. Cap: summarized from a customer's release, not TVA's tariff text.
