Deployment
AEON at BMW Group Plant Leipzig
Industrial humanoid robot from Hexagon, developed with NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Swiss actuator maker maxon, built for factory work such as assembly lines and high-voltage EV battery manufacturing. Features 22 sensors and self-swapping batteries (about 23 seconds) for around-the-clock operation, with a walking speed near 2.5 m/s. In pilot deployment at BMW Group Plant Leipzig.

Footage
Hexagon's 'It's time for AEON' film for its AEON industrial humanoid (Hexagon AB; NVIDIA-partnered, with BMW-plant pilots). A concept and launch cinematic; the BMW work is a pilot, not commercial deployment.
BMW's first humanoid deployment in Europe, using Hexagon's wheeled AEON robot at Plant Leipzig, Germany. Early-stage and ramping: an initial test deployment began December 2025 (following lab evaluation); a further test deployment was planned for April 2026; the actual pilot phase was planned to begin summer 2026.
Focus: a multifunctional application spanning high-voltage battery assembly, exterior component manufacturing, quality inspection and scanning, and material handling. Unlike Figure 02's bipedal design, AEON uses wheeled mobility for faster factory movement, with reported specs of 34 degrees of freedom, 22 sensors, 360-degree environmental awareness, and interchangeable tools and scanners.
Part of BMW's broader Physical AI initiative and its new Center of Competence for Physical AI in Production, which applies lessons from the Spartanburg/Figure 02 program directly. Honestly staged as early-test, not full pilot or production.
