On June [XXX], 2026 at 8:43 AM PT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in San Francisco, California was in a collision involving a heavy truck on [XXX] near [XXX].

The Waymo AV was stopped facing west on [XXX] for a red light at the intersection with [XXX] when a garbage truck that was stopped at the intersection facing north in the rightmost lane on [XXX], initiated a right turn onto [XXX]. The garbage truck slowed to a stop in the intersection, partially on eastbound [XXX], and the Waymo AV reversed to create additional room for the garbage truck to pass to the Waymo AV's left before coming to a stop to yield to a passenger car stopped behind the Waymo AV. The garbage truck continued to turn right onto [XXX], then slowed to a stop in close proximity to the Waymo AV, and the passenger car reversed. The Waymo AV reversed, and slowed to a stop. The garbage truck proceeded to complete the right turn and pass the Waymo AV to the left, and the front left side of the garbage truck made contact with the front left side of the stationary Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. The Waymo AV sustained damage.
