NHTSA recall 26E035 (filed Jun 17, 2026): Waymo AVs entered and drove at speed in freeway construction zones in Phoenix (Apr 11-19, 2026) and the San Francisco Bay Area (May 18, 2026) due to the ADS inappropriately prioritizing avoidance of other freeway hazards and/or failing to recognize the construction zone. Waymo implemented freeway driving restrictions and the Safety Board decided to conduct a recall on Jun 8, 2026. Software remedy in development. No injuries reported.
