Zoox recalls all 105 robotaxis (NHTSA 26E044) after robotaxi drove into heavy smoke at an active fire scene
Zoox issued a voluntary software recall covering all 105 of its driverless robotaxis after an unoccupied Zoox vehicle entered an active emergency fire scene obscured by heavy smoke on June 20, 2026. The vehicle braked hard and steered away before stopping, and a remote teleguidance operator reversed it out so first responders could cone off the scene.
No injuries were reported. Zoox released an updated software remedy on July 15, 2026; the recall (NHTSA 26E044, manufacturer recall 26-01) was submitted July 16.
