Baidu AI Cloud

Baidu AI Cloud is the cloud-computing arm of Baidu Inc (NASDAQ: BIDU; HKEX: 9888), the Beijing search giant founded in 2000 by Robin Li and Eric Xu. The cloud unit launched publicly in 2015 and, unlike standalone Western neoclouds, sits inside a full-stack AI conglomerate that also owns the ERNIE family of foundation models, the Kunlunxin custom AI accelerator line, and the Apollo Go robotaxi business. Its pitch to customers is that the same operator supplies the chip, the training cluster, and the model.

Among China's public-cloud providers, Baidu is the smallest of the "big four" (behind Alibaba Cloud, Huawei Cloud, and Tencent Cloud) but has repositioned aggressively around generative AI since ERNIE Bot launched in August 2023. The company disclosed that generative-AI-related revenue drove roughly a quarter of its cloud sales through 2024 and 2025, with cloud one of the group's fastest-growing segments even as the search advertising core shrank. Because US export controls now block Baidu from freely buying Nvidia H100/H200 silicon, the operator has leaned publicly on its in-house Kunlunxin P800 chips to build ERNIE-training clusters, alongside domestically compliant Nvidia parts (H20) and stockpiled Ampere/Hopper inventory.

Baidu does not publish a per-GPU rental sheet in the manner of a CoreWeave or Lambda, and it does not disclose fleet size or campus-level megawatts. It is a hyperscale-style operator selling PaaS/MaaS (ERNIE-as-a-service through its Qianfan platform) more than raw GPU-hours to third parties, with anchor demand coming from Baidu's own product stack (Search, Apollo, Xiaodu) plus Chinese enterprise and government customers.
