Overview
China national chemical Corporation (ChemChina) is a Chinese state-owned chemical conglomerate and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinochem Holdings. Founded in 1984 as Bluestar Company by Ren Jianxin and restructured in 2004, ChemChina operates across agrochemicals, rubber products, specialty chemicals, industrial equipment, and petrochemical processing for both civilian and military sectors.
The company made headlines with its $43 billion acquisition of Swiss agrochemicals giant Syngenta in 2017 — the largest-ever foreign purchase by a Chinese firm — and its €7.1 billion acquisition of Italian tyre maker Pirelli in 2015. ChemChina merged with Sinochem Group in 2021 to form Sinochem Holdings.
