Overview
Hokuyo Automatic Co., Ltd. (北陽電機株式会社) is a Japanese sensor manufacturer founded in 1946 and headquartered in Osaka, Japan. The company is best known for its 2D and 3D scanning laser rangefinders (LiDAR) used for obstacle detection and localization on autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Hokuyo was the first Japanese company to develop an ultra-compact LiDAR range sensor for robotics in 2004. Its UST-10LX is one of the most widely deployed 2D LiDAR sensors in the Global AMR market, compatible with ROS1 and ROS2. The company also produces photoelectric sensors, optical data transceivers, automatic counters, and automatic doors for factory and logistics automation.
