Overview
The Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa develops the iCub, an open-source research humanoid for embodied AI that is 104 cm tall, about the size of a five-year-old child; more than 40 iCubs have been built for laboratories across Europe, the US, Korea, Singapore, China and Japan. IIT also built iRonCub3, a jet-powered flying humanoid based on iCub3, which in 2025 lifted about 50 cm off the floor in its first flight.
