What is Figure 02?

What it is

Figure 02 is a general-purpose humanoid robot built by Figure AI, an American company based in Sunnyvale, California and founded in 2022. It is the second generation in Figure's lineup, sitting between the earlier Figure 01 and the current Figure 03.

What it actually did

Figure 02's headline was real factory work, not a demo reel. Per Figure and BMW, a fleet of Figure 02 units worked at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina, handling sheet-metal parts at body-shop stations. Figure says the robots contributed to production of roughly 30,000 vehicles across about 1,250 hours over ten to eleven months. That named, customer-confirmed site is what separated Figure 02 from announced-only humanoids.

The honest status now

The Spartanburg engagement was a completed project: Figure began retiring Figure 02 in November 2025, and the model is now superseded by Figure 03. Figure 02 runs Figure's Helix vision-language-action model and uses dual onboard NVIDIA GPU modules. One incident is on record: a whistleblower lawsuit filed in November 2025 alleges a Figure 02 unit gashed a steel door during a malfunction, which DEPLOY logs as an unresolved property-damage allegation, not a confirmed finding.
