Editorial narrative
The completed industrial humanoid pilot. From January 2024 partnership announcement through November 2025 official retirement, two Figure 02 robots produced 1,250 hours of operation, supported 30,000+ BMW X3s, and handled 90,000+ parts. The cleanest published case study in commercial humanoid evaluation.

Figure AI deployed Figure 02 humanoid robots at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, South Carolina for an approximately 11-month pilot program that concluded in November 2025, the first deployment of humanoid robots at any BMW Group plant. The robots handled sheet-metal loading: picking parts from racks or bins and placing them on welding fixtures, after which six-axis industrial robots welded and fed parts into the BMW X3 main production line. Running 10-hour shifts Monday through Friday, Figure 02 logged over 1,250 operating hours and contributed to the production of more than 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles, moving over 90,000 components and accumulating approximately 1.2 million steps. The deployment surfaced critical mechanical and software data that directly shaped the component architecture and build procedures for Figure 03. Following the Spartanburg success, BMW launched a new humanoid robot pilot at its Leipzig plant in Germany in February 2026.
